IslandRank is a daily-updated ranking of Fortnite Creative islands, built to solve a simple problem: with millions of maps published on Fortnite Creative, finding the genuinely fun ones is hard.
Epic's in-game discovery surfaces a handful of trending maps, but the deeper catalog is dominated by viral templates, XP farms, and copycats. The genuinely great experiences - clever roguelikes, hidden roleplay worlds, polished box-fight arenas, atmospheric horror maps - often go unseen simply because they don't dominate the discovery page.
We use the official Fortnite Ecosystem API from Epic Games as the only data source. Every day, our system pulls fresh statistics for tens of thousands of public islands: unique player counts, time spent per player, recommendation and favorite rates, retention figures, peak concurrent users. From this raw data, we compute two complementary rankings.
Top Trend blends popularity and quality. It surfaces the maps people are actually playing and coming back to, weighted to avoid being dominated purely by sheer player volume. The Day-1 retention rate carries strong weight, because returning the next day is the cleanest signal of a fun experience.
Hidden Gems focuses on smaller maps with exceptional quality signals - high retention, strong "love" rates - that have not yet reached the mainstream. The ranking is restricted to maps with 100 to 1,500 unique daily players, so the surface is dedicated to mid-sized hits worth discovering before everyone else does.
Both rankings use a statistically sound approach we describe in general terms on the How it works page. The short version: small samples are unreliable, so we apply adjustments that favor maps with established, consistent activity over noise from one-off lucky days.
The rankings update every day. Our system runs nightly: it downloads the day's metrics, applies the formulas, and publishes a fresh site. As we accumulate historical snapshots, weekly rankings activate after seven days of data, monthly rankings after thirty. Until then, the Today tab is the only one available.
